Born in Madhya Pradesh in 1966, he started his training in music at the age of eight from his sister. He also studied in a music school in Ujjain from 1975 to 1981. In 1981 he became a disciple of vocalist Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar and Veena maestro Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar.
He has been awarded National Scholarship, Junior Fellowship from the Government of India. In 1987, Ustad Nasir Aminuddin Dagar presented a Gold-Medal and he received "Rashtriya Kumar Gandhrva Samman" from Madhya Pradesh Government in 2001.
In 1985 he gave his first performance at Bhopal, and since then he has performed at many prominent music festivals in India and abroad - Tansen Samaroh-Gwalior, Harballabh Sangeet Mahasabha-Jalandhar, Sajan Milap Gharana Sammelan N.C.P.A.-Mumbai, Saptak Music Festival Ahemdabad, Shri Ram Shankarlal Festival-New Delhi, Sawai Gandhrava Sangeet Mahotsava-Pune, Samrat Sangeet Mahotsav- Goa, Shri Ramkrishna Mission- Kolkata, Jan-Fest St. Xavier's College Mumbai. He has been blessed by Ustad Zakir Hussain who accompanied Uday on the Pakhawaj at Prithvi Music Festival Mumbai.
He has been performing for Spic Macay for last 15 years for their festivals, Lec-Dem, Virasat and National conventions.
He also has performed in Holland, France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Austira, UK, USA, Canada and in Mexico.
He has sung for some International Art films directed by Mani Kaul, Arun Khopkar, Aparna Sen's Mr. & Mrs. Iyer and Amol Palekar's "Anahat."
Some of his recording in the form of Audio Cassettes and CDs have been brought out by: Rhythm House, Pan Music, Times Music, Makar Records, Nimbus Records, Navras Records, Alurkar Music House, Music Today.
