Pt. Vinayak Torvi

Pt. Vinayak Torvi is from Dharwad. He is the disciple of Gayanacharya Gururao Deshpande (the doyen of Gwalior Gharana) and Bharat Ratna Pt.Bhimsen Joshi. He had rigorous training for 20 years under gurukul system. He is a Post graduate in Music from Karnataka University, Dharwad. He studied under the able guidance of Pt.Mallikarjun Mansoor, Pt. Basavaraj Raiguru and Padmavibhushan Dr. Gangubai Hangal.

Although the main style of his singing is Gwalior and Kirana, it has a strong impact of Jaipur and Agra Gharana Gayaki as well. He has enormously contributed to light music forms like Kannada Devaranama, Marathi Abhangs, Vachana Sahitya, He is described as 'Sur Lay Ka Badshaha' by Padmavibhushan Kishan Maharaj and legendary musician Pandit Ramashray Jha.

He is also well-known as 'Tansen of Karnataka' amongst the music lovers and musicologists. His performances are broadcast/telecast in National programme and Sangeet Sammelan of AIR and Doordarshan and Worldspace.
